Tobias Omollo bows his head. With his hands together and his eyes closed, he focuses on stilling his heart and mind to come before God in prayer.
Each Wednesday, before the sun lights up the morning sky, Tobias and a group of 15 to 30 men meet at Nairobi Baptist Church to pray. Among this group are businessmen, students, entrepreneurs and doctors. Since 2009 these men have spent an hour every week praying for families, the Church, their nation and God’s mission.
Tobias is a church relations officer for Kenya’s Bible Translation and Literacy (BTL) organisation and a part of Nairobi Baptist’s pastoral staff. He often shares prayer requests from BTL with the men, and as a result, the group has begun specifically praying for Bible translation projects in Kenya during their time together.
“We believe that unless we pray, and God gives us the breath, then our work will be in vain,” shares Tobias. “When the Christian churches in Nairobi are committed to pray for our projects, I am encouraged, because then the work of God continues on the ground.”
