Meet Jerry, a church leader and translator among the Walpiri language community in northern Australia. Years ago, Jerry was a struggling alcoholic, until one night, Jesus appeared to him in a dream. From that night forward, he quit drinking and committed himself to translating the Bible into his mother tongue.

Meet Marlene, a youth pastor among the Kriol language community. Kriol is a language spoken by approximately 30,000 people across northern Australia. Marlene is one of many Aboriginal people who worked on the translation of the complete Kriol Bible. Each night, Marlene joins with other Christians to fellowship, sing songs and read God’s Word in Kriol.

Meet Roy & Estelle, a translator couple who worked with The Australian Society of Indigenous Languages (AuSIL) to translate the Scriptures into their native language, Kriol. Although it is assumed that most of the indigenous peoples in Australia know English, they don’t often read in English. Roy and Estelle wanted their people to be able to read and understand the Word of God in in Kriol, the language that speaks to their hearts.

Meet Mavis, a church leader among the Kriol language community. She was involved in checking the translation of the Bible into Kriol, her mother tongue. It was a long process—she would receive portions of the translation in the mail, make her comments, and then send them back in the mail. But now that the translation is complete, she feels at peace and would like to see the Bible in other Australian Indigenous languages.
